چکیده

In this study, results of the crystallization of iron-rich glasses are summarized. Thermogravimetry (TG)±di€erential thermal analysis (DTA) were utilized to explain the phase formations and the surface oxidation of FeO to yield Fe 2 O 3. The crystal phases fraction was evaluated utilizing X-ray di€raction analysis (XRD). Low angle XRD technique was used to investigate the distribution of the crystal phases on the surface and in the bulk as a function of the heat treatment. Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) was employed to detect the evolution of the crystalline structure and to determine the variation of the residual glass composition. The crystallization kinetics were investigated in isothermal conditions by measuring the variation of the density. The activation energy of crystal growth was calculated using isothermal and non-isothermal methodologies. The values of 377 and 298 kJ/mol were obtained for the temperature ranges 620±660°C and 720±780°C, respectively. Similar values, 368 and 321 kJ/mol, were estimated for the energy of viscous ¯ow in the same temperature ranges. The results indicate that magnetite and pyroxene are the main crystal phases and that the kinetics of pyroxene formation can be explained as growth on a ®xed number of magnetite nuclei. In powder samples, heat-treated in air, the crystallization is inhibited by the surface oxidation of Fe 2‡ to yield Fe 3‡ and a layer of haematite is formed on the surface.

Vitrification and Sinter-Crystallization of Iron-Rich Industrial Wastes

Results about the vitrification of several hazardous iron-rich industrial wastes (from productions of Zn and Cu metals, as well as EAFD and MSWA) and the usage of obtained glasses for synthesise of sintered glass-ceramics are summarises. It is shown that the appropriated method of sinter-crystallization mainly depends on the crystallization trend of used glasses. When the parent composition is ...

Production and Crystallization Behavior of an Iron Rich Glass–Ceramic Prepared by Ironmaking and Steelmaking Wastes

Using wastes as starting raw materials is a common method to reduce the production costs and the environmental pollution problems arising from such wastes. In this study the production and crystallization behavior of an iron rich glass prepared by iron and steel making wastes has been investigated. The raw materials used, were the blast furnace slag, the blast furnace dust, converter slag and s...

Reply to “Comment on ‘Influence of Fe /Fe Ratio on the Crystallization of Iron-Rich Glasses Made with Industrial Wastes’”

OUR previous paper 1 described studies on modification of the crystallization ability and spinel/pyroxene ratio, as induced by thermal treatment and carbon addition, in high-iron-content glasses obtained from jarosite (J) and electric arc furnace dust (EAFD). The composition of these wastes is variable and complex. As an example, J-glass generated from one of the main zinc producers in the worl...

Sintering in Nitrogen Atmosphere of Iron-Rich Glass-Ceramics

The sintering and the crystallization of two iron-rich glass compositions (45–75m powder fractions) were studied in air and nitrogen atmospheres. The phase formation was evaluated by differential thermal analysis, while the densification, by dilatometry; the crystalline phases were identified by X-ray diffraction and the structure observed by scanning electron microscopy. It was highlighted tha...
